Now that ski resorts have opened for the season, it’s the time to get out there. The best way to spend a weekend is on the slopes, enjoying some great runs. However, it can be difficult to choose which resort is the best for you when there are so many options to choose from. Colorado has some of the best skiing around, which makes every option a great choice. We’ve compiled a list of some of our very favorites throughout the state to help you decide which option is right for you. As always remember to check weather and local guidelines before heading up the mountain.
1) Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort
It’s pretty safe to assume you’ve heard of the town of Aspen, the place for the rich and famous to ski. Well, there’s a reason for it. Along with Aspen Mountain, there are three other standalone ski resorts to choose from. And you can get access to them all on one lift ticket. This won’t be the cheapest weekend of skiing in the state. But with the vast variety of skiing options in one area, there is something for every skier.

2) Breckenridge Ski Resort
Voted one of the best ski towns in the US, you can understand that Breckenridge is also one of the most popular resorts in the state. And while there is plenty of fun things to do in the town, the skiing is superb. You’ll be able to find something for everyone here, including some late-season skiing. Thanks to the high elevation, the season is longer than some other places in the state. Make sure you get your tickets reserved before heading up the mountain this year. Due to the pandemic, they are limiting the number of people per day.

3) Telluride Ski Resort
Telluride is a bit further from Denver than other resorts in the state. But that only adds to the appeal. With the distance comes stunning scenic views and smaller crowds than you see in places. If you are looking for some of the steepest mountains in the state, then the San Juan Mountains are the ones for you. Another great reason to choose Telluride is how easy it is to get around the mountain. Plus, with a free gondola skiers staying in town have easy access to the mountain. And when you’re done taking in a free gondola ride to see the stunning beauty, head on down to the Old West town to spend the evening exploring.

4) Steamboat Ski Resort
Though Steamboat is a bit further outside of Denver than places, this has many great reasons to go the extra mile. First, they have what’s been coined “Champagne Powder Snow.” Which is very smooth and dry snow that’s great for skiing and can only be found at Steamboat. Second, they have hot springs to relax in after a great day of skiing. While this resort isn’t nearly as high as some of the others, this is a great place for those who aren’t used to the elevation Colorado has to offer.

5) Vail Ski Resort
Of course, we have to put Vail on this list. It’s one of the most well-known resorts in the state and definitely the biggest. With it also brings larger crowds and higher prices on things in the city. But it also has some stellar skiing that you don’t want to miss out on. This year, because of the pandemic, you’re going to want to look up availability before heading up as spots on the mountain are limited.
